This painting of an elephant at ease with a lion was an epiphany for me in many ways. For one, I was listening to a song called “Epiphany” and so it really guided the tone of my work. And two, I asked my audience to vote on what I should paint next – an elephant or a lion. One person responded, suggesting I paint both…together. For some strange reason, it had never occurred to me to paint more than one type of animal in a painting. How could this be? It was an epiphany moment for me and a unique painting for this very reason. Strangely, the ease of this elephant and lion together almost makes me…uncomfortable, like there is a tension building. This epiphany has made me question and look deeper into my intentions as an artist and I hope it will make you slightly uncomfortable enough to make you consider your place in your own little world and dig a little deeper until you hit an epiphany of discovery about yourself.
